one more year as a teen

Nathanael is nineteen today. This past year, he has entered more into the realm of adult-ish responsibilities. He is working as a handyman, learning a wide variety of new skills and building up his tool collection. He bought his first car and tackled various repairs that came with it. He has ventured out of his comfort zone figuring out car insurance and bank accounts. He isn’t certain of a definite future direction, but is making the most of what’s in front of him right now, and praying about what might be next.

Our Bug still LOVES game – almost any game – and Lego. He seems to have mostly decided that gardening isn’t for him, but will still help me if I ask. He has grown to really enjoy hiking the past couple years, and though we haven’t tackled any high peaks as a family, I expect that this fall will find him rallying his brothers to begin that adventure. He likes traveling, but also still likes just being home. He is a big fan of bowling and ninja-warrior type obstacle courses, though finding opportunities for either around here is a challenge.

Nathanael still quietly serves others often and without prompting. He’ll help with laundry, ask if I need help with dinner, take out the trash, feed the dogs and work on house projects. He is considerate of others, always, and rarely complains about anything. He is frugal and wise with his finances, but he is generous, too. He has become the person Tim discusses house projects with at length, and Tim has grown to value and respect his input.

I don’t know what is down the road for Nathanael. He is exceptional, and able to tackle with excellence just about anything he puts his hand to, but for now, I am happy to still have him at home. He is an indescribable blessing and I am excited to celebrate another year of his life.
