for today

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

In ev’ry condition— in sickness, in health,
In poverty’s vale, or abounding in wealth;
At home or abroad, on the land, on the sea,
As days may demand, shall thy strength ever be.

Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God, I will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand.

When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow,
For I will be with thee, thy trials to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace all-sufficient shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!

  1. Please wish Caedmon a very Happy Birthday. ( I know, terribly late!) Just catching up on some reading while it is so very cold.
    His foundation is secure! Love this hymn, so much packed into it. So many times I’ve been afraid, trying to figure ‘everything’ out and been reminded, over and over, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto my own understanding’. I may not understand….but working on laying it all at His feet, trusting in Him, in everything. Praying you, and your family are well and maybe I will actually see you for more than two second while trying to drop off meat!

    • For some reason, though I have been familiar with this hymn, I’ve never paid close attention to the words before. There really is so much truth in it that just challenges me to adjust my perspective and trust that God is who He says He is – always, no matter what circumstances may be. It is hard to find more than a few minutes, huh? Well, if you ever find yourself in the area with time on your hands (that’s super likely, right??), we’re very flexible with our schedule around here and would love a visit :).

      • This is one of my husband’s favorite hymns. The same one that starts McGee’s radio program! Like many verses, it holds much more than what is quickly read over.
        Ha! I never get an email to say you responded, so sorry for not getting back to you sooner…
        Yes, I do travel through Madrid doing deliveries, almost every Friday. Will put your number in my phone and next time I have a few extra minutes, will give you a call? Would love to visit with you again, has been a while! Praying you are all well!
